About IKIRIBIA ENA OTUTU ENYI

The IKIRIBIA ENA OTUTU ENYI, a visionary initiative born under the aegis of the Ojighri-ndu Age Grade (and Akahaba Age Grade) of the Abiriba Ancient Kingdom in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, was established to foster unity, mutual support, and socio-economic development among like-minded individuals within the age grade. The formation of this unique League of friends stems from the shared desire to emulate similar groups within the Abiriba Kingdom while upholding a tradition of excellence and collective growth.

The foundation of the organisation was inspired by the age-old practice of forming community-based groups that drive development and solidarity. In line with this tradition, the idea for a League exclusively for the Ojighri-ndu Age Grade (and Akahaba Age Grade) emerged as a means to solidify relationships among its members. The League's vision extends beyond its members' welfare to encompass contributions to the growth and development of the Abiriba Ancient Kingdom and its environs.

The proposed name originates from the historical significance of cowries, known in Abiriba parlance as “IKIRIBIA,” which served as the first monetary currency used for trade in the Abiriba Ancient Kingdom. It also reflects the individual and collective accomplishments of the members, who are progressive in both financial and other endeavours, as well as their notable contributions to the socio-economic development of the Abiriba Ancient Kingdom.

The League’s motto, “… our friendship, our impact, our legacy” encapsulates its commitment to the betterment of the community.

The organisation was formally conceptualised as a group or committee of members of like minds within the Ojighri-ndu Age Grade (and Akahaba Age Grade). 

Branches of the League extend beyond the national borders, having both national and international representation. This structure ensures that members, regardless of their location, can actively contribute to the League’s objectives.

From its inception, the IKIRIBIA ENA OTUTU ENYI has focused on creating a close-knit community where members support each other, champion socio-economic growth, and contribute to the welfare of the Abiriba Kingdom. 

Key objectives include:

• Protecting and promoting members’ welfare.
• Encouraging mutual love and unity.
• Contributing to peace, order, and development within the kingdom.
• Providing services and support for the less privileged, widows, and the elderly.
• Motivating members to actively engage in community affairs.

  The League’s identity is visually represented by its logo, which features: 

• A pot of cowries, a nod to the kingdom’s historical trade currency, 
• The Achi Tree representing the centre point of Abiriba ancient kingdom and,
• Canoes representing the primary means of transport of Abiriba trade merchants.
